Ask me anything about...query letter writing!
It's AMA Friday! Let's tackle questions about everything and anything related to query letter writing and the whole getting-an-agent thing.
Hello and TGIF!
First of all, thank you so much to those of you who weighed in about my lovely cat who has all these skin problems. Many of you suggested acupuncture, which isn’t something I considered, although I’ve had success it with myself. I’m actively looking for an animal behaviorist specialist and an acupuncturist who works with cats—these feel like two good paths forward for Chester’s skin issues. I’m very grateful for the advice that many of you shared—your care and generosity means a lot to me.
Now on to AMA-ing! In preparation for our April 17th class on Query Writing, I’m opening up comments here to everyone. This is the time and the place to ask me everything you want to know about query letter writing, from the mundane and/or logistical (i.e., “How long should a query letter be?”) to the frustrating and existential-crisis inducing “Why is no one saying yes?”
Please note, I probably won’t be responding to each and every question—mostly I’m looking to make sure I’m covering all the topics that interest you in the April 17th Query class. But certainly, I’ll dip into the comments and respond when I can over the coming days and weeks.
Over to you! Let’s hear everything you’d love to understand or know about query letter writing! And don’t forget to sign up for the “All Things Querying” masterclass on April 17th. If you can’t join us live, you can join by video at your leisure and ask me a question after watching the class.
A quick note on the videos of these masterclasses— I offered the video of the first class on Time Management at a discounted price after the class took place, but that’s something I did to give people a chance to experience what makes these Turning Points classes special. I will not be releasing a discounted version of the Query Writing class— this is the one time I’ll be teaching it in 2024.
So let’s get to it! Share your query questions with me here. And thanks for reading my Substack!
My first query response was a request for a full… and then lots and lots of radio silence, a handful of form rejections, and a partial request. It’s so all over the map I don’t know what to do besides continue to hold my breath 😵💫😵💫
Is there a "best time to query" (calendar-wise), or is that just a myth?
