Financial literacy post #02: How I make money as an author_Part 2
When things started working out for me, I kept my day job. Here's why.
Hello and happy Wednesday.
Before we continue the financial literacy series I started last week, I have three things to plug:
Enter the massive giveaway for “Give a Horse Book Day”! My memoir THE YEAR OF THE HORSES is part of a giant giveaway organized by 30 authors for “Give a horse book day” on May 10th. Between the anthology HORSE GIRLS edited by Electric Literature’s own Halimah Marcus, the memoir HORSE CRAZY by Sarah Maslin Nir and the stunning sports memoir CROSSING THE LINE by Kareem Rosser, someone out there is going to get some truly phenomenal books. Know what’s even better? The winner also gets to designate a charity of their choice to receive a second box of books. To enter you do need to live in the continental United States and it probably helps if you have an interest in horses or love someone who does, otherwise, it’s super easy to participate. Simply enter here!
There are two weeks left to apply to my Turning Points writing workshop in New Mexico taking place this fall! All application information for this very special workshop is available through my website.
Would you rather write in Greece instead? Not a problem! My colleague Brian Gresko’s got you covered. Only two spots left.

Get away and write!
Now on to today’s post.
How I make money as an author - Part 2
When we left each other last week, I had moved from a hot and noisy apartment in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn to a charming but poorly built log cabin in the Massachusetts Berkshires. That post was the first installment in me sharing how I have made money as a writer. This is chapter two.
