I don't feel shame around this anymore
A follow-up video to Wednesday's post about revision
Hi there, writer friends and friends who don’t identify as writers.
Today’s post is a follow-up video to Wednesday’s post about revision. Revision can feel never-ending, like a tremendous muddy slog, and when we don’t have an agent yet or we’re getting lots of rejections, it can sometimes feel pointless. As with all things Before and After the Book Deal, I’m about keeping things manageable, upbeat, and even fun. That’s why this video shares a change of heart I’ve had in my attitude toward revision. I do hope that you like it. If you’re in the revision trenches, like I am, you might find these past posts and resources useful:
How to accomplish a massive revision without losing your mind
Is my novel submission-ready? (That’s last Wednesday’s post.)
What’s Wrong with My Book: A revision masterclass (This is a three-hour online masterclass I teach— the video of the class is discounted to $39. If you’re interested in it, send me a DM!)
In the meantime, I hope you like this video featuring the novel-revising top bun that I’ll be wearing until I get this manuscript into perfect shape.
This video is free but it takes energy and time to make and share. If you enjoy my video posts and feel called to back my efforts to make writing and publishing less opaque and more joyful, please consider supporting my work with a paid subscription.
In the comments, feel free to share your own thoughts about revision. How can we change our mindsets around immense revisions and go from “What a drag that I have to do this; what a bummer that I haven’t gotten this right yet,” to “It’s so interesting that my characters still have more to tell me. What a lucky writer I am that I get to listen.”
And thank you for listening to me!
Courtney
It's so funny that I had a similar conversation with my writing group the other day. I'm big on mindset, so while I know a lot of people hate editing and revising, I've worked really hard to manage my mind around it. "This is a puzzle that I get to figure out" is way more fun and empowering to me than the alternative negativity.
I would like the three hour What's Wrong With My Book video. please! Rmuir01@gmail.com
