It is a supremely rewarding feeling to come upon the perfect title for your book when you’re writing it. Maybe the title was lying in plain sight all along; maybe it was hiding inside something one of your characters said; perhaps it’s a reference to an object that’s important in your book or story.
In the above scenarios, you’re writing. You’re in flow. It’s a fantastic place to be. You can find your title at the beginning or end of your project—it doesn’t really matter because you’re immersed in story-building and getting words on to the page.
But we’re not always in flow. Sometimes we are stuck; a compass with no needle. We might even have ideas stored in a spreadsheet or on a piece of paper, but lack the drive to catalyze them. That’s where prompts come in: the literary equivalent of a kick-in-the-butt. Here’s a fun one for July.
