Courtney.... I am OBSESSED with Young Sheldon!! My 6th grade son turned me on to it and we've been steadily making our way through it over the last six months or so (currently in season 5). It's hard to find a show that is equally satisfying for people of any generation, and this is it. The dialogue, the ways the characters play off each other with equal parts stubborn love and knowing exactly which buttons to push, the brilliant dry humor... I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Pretty sure my son would go live with MeeMaw if he had the chance. I'm already eyeing either The Big Bang Theory or Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage as our next binge. Popcorn cheers from afar!
My tween son absolutely loved Young Sheldon. My spouse and I would often watch it with him (but couldn’t keep up with his binge watching!) and really enjoyed it as well.
We watched YS a few years back with my then tween son. He’s now turning 16, but I’m wondering if we should try to watch it together again. There are so few things we all enjoy…thanks for the idea!
I was the network creative exec on Young Sheldon and this post absolutely warmed my heart. Thrilled people are still finding and loving the show. And do give Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage a chance - it’s a multicam, so more brightly lit and shot in front of a studio audience (that’s not a laugh track, folks, it’s actual people laughing!), but it’s got the same heart as YS does. These writers are geniuses and it’s a joy to work with them.
OH MY GOSH! My family is going to flip out—this is adjacent to meeting Taylor Swift. I hope you’re seeing the comments about how very many people love this show!
Truly this is bringing me so much joy, Courtney. I’m in a very industry bubble that loves to turn their noses up at network TV, especially a successful network TV show spun off from another massively successful TV show (see above re complaints about a “laugh track” that isn’t actually a track), and it’s so so nice to be reminded that our audience is out there and truly cares about these stories. It’s especially rewarding to hear from a community of writers like this one that these stories are hitting the way we hoped they would. Thank you thank you thank you. Now can we somehow conjure Taylor Swift to comment on here next? 🤣❤️❤️❤️
I discovered Young Sheldon and, like you, watched each episode more than once. I often found profound meaning in the dialogue viewing the second time. I was sorry to realize the show couldn't go on forever. Sheldon had to grow up. I knew that when his voice changed. The earliest episodes were the best. The acting is superb as is the writing. BTW, I hated the Big Bang. Couldn't watch the tireless braggart.
My family loved Young Sheldon. My husband and I watched it with our two kids during the pandemic. I guess they were around 9 and 12 at the time? As a Texan who works with public schools, I have to say that show nailed the coach dad and the Christian mom. Also, Annie Potts is a national treasure.
When Young Sheldon first came on TV, it made me deeply uncomfortable to watch it. Eventually, I figured out that it was because I was exactly like Sheldon as a child - awkward, zero social skills, wasn't a fan of other kids, and super smart. But everyone on the show was nice to him, as opposed to treating him like dirt because he was different. How fiction varies from reality! It was through watching the show that I came to the realization that I was probably neurodivergent, although I haven't invested in testing because there's no benefit at this point in my life. Once I made this realization, I did enjoy the show.
My comfort show is Supernatural. I still binge it on Netflix when I need a pick-me-up.
I binge-watched every episode of Young Sheldon in a couple of weeks. It's such a clever, heartfelt, but not treacly show. And even though I knew the major plot points from watching The Big Bang Theory (which was zany but well-acted), I still got choked up when they landed. And any show with Annie Potts is worth watching. I loved that they had no laugh track, too. A beautiful series that too many people dismissed.
I’ve been rewatching episodes of Ted Lasso each night before bed for some calm and kindness and have never watched Young Sheldon but your post made me want to! I’ll be watching the first one tonight- thanks for the recommendation
Haha, I love this show too, and I always thought it was my own private favorite—until one summer dinner when I discovered that the younger generation in our family (my son, his girlfriend, and two of his cousins, all in their early 20s) absolutely adore it as well. They even joke about Philippe being our own Young Sheldon—he was a bit of a prodigy as a kid, though he’s grown out of it.
I'm a 73-year-old white male atheist who watches very little TV but I do stop scrolling through the internet when this show pops up. Thoroughly enjoyable.

This is my favorite club. So glad to find my Sheldon-heads!

I love these stories of adults/parents watching with their kids!
My sister just introduced it to us at thanksgiving and we love it!

Thank you so much for your part in making this show exist. It has been a wonderful point of bonding between me and my son. We both love it so much.
Thrilled to hear it! Thank you so much.

Yes! It’s a little like “Arrested Development” in that the dialogue ripens when you watch episodes more than once.
You’ve inspired me Courtney! It will be my next binge😊

HARD AGREE.

I don’t think I’ve heard of it. Thank you for sharing! People were awful to the smart kids in my middle school as well.

You got me at “no laugh track”… definitely worth checking out!
Yes yes to all of this! Annie Potts 4-ever!
We need more shows that are "tiger balm for our crusty winter elbows and frazzled minds" (what a wonderful turn of phrase!).
My friend Saul felt similarly about Young Sheldon, and I love that it's a show that kids are discovering and watching together as a family https://ministryofpopculture.substack.com/p/young-sheldon-sitcoms-comedy
Oh my gosh! That’s rad! Running over to read it…

I haven’t seen Ted Lasso! I’ll trade ya.
We watched Ted Lasso years after it came out...up to the last season. Skipped that ad it unraveled. But the early seasons were marvelous.

Jeune Philippe!

Gah. I’ll let Alice know and get back to you!
Yes! My family is obsessed, too. We started watching with our teenage son. He's kind of grown out of it now but I am hooked!

It’s the bridge that unites us all! Or the potential bridge!
