Thank goodness it’s Friday. The first work days after time off feel sludgy to get through. It’s my husband’s birthday this weekend and we are having a baked potato party. The baked potato is a humble round of wonder. It can go high (caviar and lox fixings) and it can go low (bacon bits, American cheese). I’m excited for a cafeteria style birthday party.

Got…work?

I wanted to check in quickly today because we have a few community members who are looking for more work. I’d like to make this a regular feature here: The Job Board. Amy is a special light in my life because she was one of the first people to attend the inaugural session of my arts retreat, The Cabins, back when it launched in 2016. Amy and I even shared an editor for a while, and I have worked with her in an editorial capacity—she was my editor at Medium when I had a column there. Amy is organized and creative, with a quirky sense of humor, and she’s landed nonfiction pieces in some of the flashy outlets where we all want to publish. Call me Professor Maum! Next Wednesday, I start my first teaching job where I’m officially linked to a university for a semester. (Until now, I’ve taught workshops and masterclasses at the college and grad level, but not a semester-long course.) I’m teaching an elective on Query Letter writing at Drexel. I’m grateful for the opportunity to teach this class from home because online teaching makes education more accessible for people. Wish me luck!

One of my favorite writers has a podcast: Thank you to editor Emily Griffin for turning me on to the wild, wild ride that is the “Wind of Change” podcast from the writer and journalist Patrick Radden Keefe. This podcast seeks Patrick chasing down a tip that the mega blockbuster song, “The Winds of Change” by the German metal band, Scorpion, might actually have been written…by the CIA?
